Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead is one of my favourite documentaries in regards to food health and transformation. It documents one man's journey from being overweight, sick and unwell, his decision to juice his way back to health over a 60 day cross country trip around the States inspiring others to regain their health. I started juicing around 7 years ago, and each year I make sure I do a juice cleanse just to reboot my entire system. So take some time, and enjoy this movie!

This article is an interesting read for anyone suffering from pain to do with any sort of inflammatory diseases. As science progresses we learn more about how certain types of illnesses and conditions affect the body. Good and bad gut bacteria has been a hot topic in recent year with fermented goodies such as sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha and even cheese and yogurt, and how we need a balance of good gut bacteria to keep our bodies healthy and happy.
What you eat affects the body so much, as Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food". So whilst we can exercise and keep our bodies healthy from the outside in, the most thing to start on the inside, and eat our way to health and heal the body with diet! When I was at the Bikram Training last year in Phuket I met a trainee Carina who shared my love of one pieces and recently she has shared her inspirational story of how Bikram yoga has changed her life. "I'm here to prove that this yoga is transformational," she said. "If you're open to receiving, you never know what the universe will give you. I'm so grateful to be where I am." Bikram Yoga is not just a physical workout, it's a deeply therapeutic way of healing the body, mind and soul and I see it every time I'm in the room, teaching or practicing. The yoga has certainly transformed my life for the better, building myself back from so many physical ailments and getting rid of depression and mind clutter. This article is just another reminder of how wonderful this yoga is! Well written article addressing not only how yoga can affect society right now in the present moment, but also the effect it has long term on society as a whole. From school dropouts to PTSD in veterans, to substance abuse among all age groups, all these cost countries trillions of dollars, yet studies have shown that yoga as a therapeutic source of practicing mindfulness can help reduce and one day prevent these costs as well as promote general wellbeing.
Bikram yoga certainly has changed my life, and this is yet another inspiring story of how it has affected someone else. From the students who courageous walk into the room and open themselves up to healing, to the teachers who inspire and give out their energy, to the studio owners who offer a safe and nurturing haven for everyone to come be themselves and create their own empowerment. Yoga is life, here's how it changed mine!
Why not? This yoga has so many amazing benefits, here's yet another perspective outlining the many bonuses this therapeutic yoga has to offer.
Yoga isn't just about stretching out the body and gaining flexibility, it's a huge mental and emotional challenge as well. When you face yourself for 90 mins it's amazing all the silent dialogue you can create in your own mind and thoughts you come up with. Part of the meditation is to learn and practice how to clear it all, taking away all the drama, endeavour to reaching a deeper level of self awareness. This article gives a few tips how to clean up your practice, taking away all the extra stuff, and learning how to accept and just be.
It's always nice to read and hear of inspirational stories regarding health and overcoming challenges and this article hits the spot. As a Bikram teacher I've seen students working through debilitating diseases as well as overcome mental and emotional hardship. Yoga in all forms is so therapeutic and I speak from firsthand experience, having spent the last 15 years of my life with health problems and not being able to find a cure. Amy nails it with: "the point I would really like to impress is, that you just can’t quit on life.
It’s not over, you can heal yourself. Just get out there and do something, anything. Even if Bikram is not for you, no yoga is bad yoga." |
"I am not what happened to me,
I am what I choose to become" Carl Gustave Jung I'm Binny, a full time Bikram Yoga teacher and studio owner that lives in Perth, Australia.
I started this blog to share the things I love the best in the world: being healthy and happy, food (especially raw), yoga, traveling and most importantly, learning how to love and be true to myself. I suffered from severe digestive problems when I was younger, being gluten and lactose intolerant, and developed compartment syndrome and fibromyalgia in my teens. I have lived with constant pain for over 16 years now. Over the past 10 years, I've shifted to a mainly plant based diet and realised that being well and healthy is a way of life. I have been teaching Bikram yoga since 2011, in the US and Australia. Due to my health issues I've also had a lot of bodywork done as well as explored alternative therapies. I've become much more aware of myself as a result of all this - physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Right now I love my life. In my career I love what I do and I do what I love. I have traveled to some amazing places around the world and made lifelong friends. In between working and traveling, I cook up a storm in the kitchen, especially raw desserts, spend time with the people I love the best, which now includes a yoga husband, a mini yogini Estell, and our dog! I try to listen to my body the best I can. I truly believe that we all have the power and the capabilities to heal our own bodies, to nourish the spirit and seek our own happiness and life's purpose.
